The entertainment world has yet again been thrown into mourning following the death of Nigerian singer and songwriter, Olanrewaju Fasasi, a.k.a Sound Sultan.

The 44-year-old singer died on Sunday after a hard-fought battle with Angioimmunoblastic T-Cell Lymphoma, a rare type of cancer.

Following the news, tributes have continued to pour in from fans, friends and colleagues across the country.

Many of his songs addressed social issues as they spoke to the challenges going on in the country at the time.

While he will be missed, below are some of his five hit songs that will continue to linger in the hearts of most Nigerians.

5. Jagbajantis

This was his first song, released in the year 2000. If you’re a 90’s kid, there’s no denying that this was an anthem that year. The track brought Sound sultan into limelight.

4. Naija Jungle

The track is a narrative on the state of the nation with thought-provoking and insightful lyrics. Comparing Nigeria to a jungle, Sound Sultan sang a blend of Pidgin and English, “some dey work all the work, some chop till belle full”

3. Kokose ft Wizkid

This was released in 2013 from the album Me, My Mouth & Eye. Kokose is a combination of the classic and new age urban nigerian music.

4. Bush Meat

In the song featuring 2face Idibia and W4, Sound Sultan said “one day, the bush meat go catch the hunter” with it’s popular line “Eba mi ki ole”.

5. Motherland

The “Jagbajantis” crooner dedicated this song to “all his brothers wey don ja comot for naija”. He adds “no matter where you go, make you no forget about area!”. This is sound sultan telling you “there’s no place like home”. This arguably one his best track.
