The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the death of 17-year-old Habeebah Akinsanya, who was allegedly kidnapped and later found raped and macheted to death in the Kemta area of the state.
Habeebah, a student at Lisabi Grammar School in Abeokuta, went missing on Friday night after helping her sister with a Point of Sale business.
Her father, Akinsanya Aremu, a member of the So Safe Corps, reported her disappearance to the Kemta Police Division around 9:30 PM.
Her body was discovered on Sunday at her father’s farm in the Mile 6 community, near Ogun State Television in Abeokuta.
According to the Divisional Police Officer of Kemta Division, Olawale Famobuwa, the police had been tracking her location but were unable to find her in time.
Famobuwa clarified that a ransom of N30,000 was paid to the kidnappers, not N1 million as previously reported, to assist in tracking them down.
A farm worker named Onyeka, who worked for Habeebah’s father, was identified as a prime suspect after a local resident reported seeing him enter the bush with the girl.
Onyeka has since fled, and the police have launched a full investigation to bring all responsible parties to justice.
